HIDES > EASTERN IMPERIAL EAGLE HIDE

Location and installation year:
This hide is located near Jászberény in agricultural and steppe mosaic habitat. It was installed in October 2008.

Access:
Possible to drive to the hide.

Size and style:
It is 240 cm wide, 240 cm long and 160 cm high. It has two photo windows. The size of the photo-through windows is 210 cm by 40 cm. Most of the hide is in a depression so it does blend perfectly into the flat landscape. It is comfortable for three photographers.

Comfort and accessories:
- Three chairs with back support
- Curtains
- Gas operated mobile heating system (while -5°C outside it can be 20°C inside the hide)
- Shelf
- Ventillators against the steaming up of the glass window
- Different size slippers

Regulation:
This hide must be entered by the photographers before daylight (cc. 05:00) and can only be left after dusk (cc. 17:00). This is necessary as the eagles are very shy and once disturbed they can abandon the feeding station for days. Strictly no smoking in the hide because of the heating system.

Recommended Photo Equipment:
The distance of the eagles from the hide can be regulated by the food. The eagles are shy but they usually come about 10-15 meter close. All sort of lenses recommended but for 500mm and 300 mm for flight shots are best. Occasionally the eagles can come within 10 meters and then a 70-200 zoom is very handy. Extenders.

What to bring:
Headlight or torch
Warm clothing in case the heating system breaks down

Photo period:
15th of October to 25th of February

Possible species:
White-tailed Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Common Buzzard, Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Hooded Crow, Raven
